Third-year pharmacy students help with diabetes foundation gala

As it has since 2008, the College of Pharmacy’s Class of 2011 assisted with the Omaha-Council Bluffs Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Annual Gala.

Third-year students in the College of Pharmacy volunteered last Saturday night during the Omaha-Council Bluffs Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Annual Gala. It was the third-consecutive year that members of the class assisted with the event.

About 25 members of the Class of 2011 helped with clean up and other aspects of the event, which was held last Saturday at Qwest Center Omaha and raised $550,000 for diabetes research. In the three years the students have helped, the JDRF has raised nearly $1.8 million.

“Without the help of compassionate volunteers like the UNMC Pharmacy Class of 2011, we would not be able to organize an event like the gala,” said Morgan Haverman, outreach manager for the Omaha-Council Bluffs JDRF chapter. “We truly appreciate all of the hard work that the (class) has done for our organization!”
