Nebraska native headlines UNMC Black History program

Joseph White, Ph.D., is known as the “Godfather” of black psychology. The Nebraska native returns to Omaha today to kick-off the 2010 Diversity Lectures and Cultural Arts Series.

The series, which runs from February to June, will feature scholarly lectures and presentations addressing contemporary issues of diversity and cultural presentations highlighting various cultures present in the UNMC community.

The title of Dr. White’s presentation is “Surviving and thriving: major psychological strengths in the African-American way of being.”

It will be held at noon in the Durham Research Center auditorium. Free lunch will be provided to the first 40 attendees.

Dr. White is well-respected for his distinguished work as a psychologist, teacher and administrator. He is currently professor emeritus of psychology and psychiatry at the University of California, Irvine.
