First-year nursing students recited an oath of professionalism and donned white coats at the UNMC College of Nursing Nightingale White Coat Ceremonies recently held in Scottsbluff, Lincoln, Kearney and Omaha.

One hundred and thirty-five students recited the Florence Nightingale pledge in front of friends, family and supporters. The nursing students will wear the white coats until graduation.

“The ceremony was a great start to my journey as a nurse,” said Adriana DeLeon, a nursing student from Wyoming. “I felt so proud to become a nurse.”

This year’s white coats were paid for by UNMC alumni donations, which also helped pay for student scholarships and student programming.

The nursing White Coat Ceremony recognizes new students biannually while inducting them into the college.
