Human behavior is the product of a fascinating interaction of environmental and genetic forces.

Dr. Hibbing’s current work, mostly with John Alford of Rice University, employs economic games, fMRIs, evolutionary theory and behavioral genetics in order to identify the deeper biological causes of social and especially political behavior. Last fall Dr. Hibbing was featured on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”

The Science Cafes are part of an effort by UNMC and other groups to increase the population’s science literacy. The cafes are hosted by UNMC, BioNebraska and the Nebraska Coalition for Lifesaving Cures.

A more scientifically literate populace is a goal in UNMC’s strategic plan. The goal of the Science Cafes is to introduce and get young adults interested in science by presenting it in a casual setting.
