Dr. Swindells named to NIH AIDS research advisory committee

Susan Swindells, M.B.B.S., has been selected to serve on the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) AIDS Research Advisory Committee.

The NIAID is one of the National Institutes of Health.

The committee advises NIAID Director Anthony Fauci, M.D., on all issues regarding HIV/AIDS biomedical research including:

  • Pathogenesis;
  • Natural history;
  • Transmission; and
  • Efforts aimed at better detection, treatment and prevention.

“This is a great honor,” said Dr. Swindells, the Terry K. Watanabe Professor of Internal Medicine in the section of infectious diseases and medical director of the UNMC HIV Clinic. “It should be interesting to see how it all works. I was very flattered to be asked.”

Dr. Swindells’ term on the committee started Nov. 1 and will end on Oct. 31, 2013.
