Our guest panelist, Missouri alum Ward Chambers, M.D., coordinator of UNMC’s International Health and Medical Education program, was wrong in his prediction of a Tiger victory, but he’s alright with us for playing along last week. (Thanks Dr. Chambers!)
We have at least one other guest panelist lined up for this season’s Husker Pick’em series, so keep an eye on UNMC Today to see who weighs in on the weekly match ups.
After five games, here’s how our regular panelists stack up:
- Jeff Hill, M.D., 5-0
- Team Runco/Kelsay (NU superfan Lisa Runco and former Husker Chad Kelsay), 4-1; and
- Rob Zatechka, M.D., 4-1.
Below our panelists discuss NU’s Saturday tilt with the Red Raiders of Texas Tech:
Dr. Hill says, “Texas Tech has a bad track record against ranked teams when not playing at home. Momentum is solid for the Huskers and the defense once again will prevail. A large dose of home cooking is on the menu for NU.” NU 31, Texas Tech 17
Team Runco/Kelsay says, “We’ve got no hesitation in picking a Husker win, but are not confident with the score. Our defense is good enough to keep us in any game, but the offense needs to perform more consistently; starting with quarterback Zach Lee. Last Thursday, our special teams were anything but. They have to get that turned around.” NU 31, Texas Tech 24
Dr. Zatechka says, “Texas Tech lost several all-America caliber players from last year but still seems to be able to ‘reload.’ They currently have two capable quarterbacks and an offense that put up more than 700 yards last week. Their offensive line does have issues and with the way NU’s defense plays, that may be an Achilles’ heel for Tech. Losing Rex Burkhead and Roy Helu’s ‘banged up’ status doesn’t help NU but the home environment will.” NU 31, Texas Tech 27
