At a New York gala, she was recognized for her professional and volunteer work to eradicate breast cancer. Hill was among several recipients including actress Brooke Shields.
In 2001, a year after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, Hill co-founded the “My Sister’s Keeper” breast cancer survivor support group, which provides education and advocacy to women in north Omaha.
“When I was first diagnosed, I didn’t know anyone with breast cancer,” she said. “Eventually, I met other survivors and realized how important it is to connect with other women who have survived breast cancer.

My Sister’s Keeper became an extension of her outreach community work at UNMC.
“When you’re facing cancer, it is critical to have advocates to give you information about treatment options, help you navigate the health care system and let you know you can get through it all, that there can be life after breast cancer,” Hill said.

As a survior myself, you and the survivors that I have met from My Sister's Keeper along with the many informantive dinners and meetings, have inspired me not only to fight but to stand as an advocate and supporter of other women who may have to deal with Breast cancer. As I continue to work in my church and the community to spread the word "that there is life after breast cancer," I applaud you as you strongly press forward in educating women that there is help for them. My Sister's Keeper has a wealth of information through professionals, support and encourgement that will help you fight this breast cancer. May God continue to bless and keep you in His care.
