A series of education sessions have been scheduled to review the Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) program, which will be introduced in November at UNMC’s hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center.

The CDI program is specifically designed to ensure that the physician’s clinical documentation provides sufficient specificity and alignment with compliant terminology to ensure that both physicians and the hospital receive proper credit for the treatment of our patients’ severity of illness.

This program will work in a multidisciplinary approach joining our Case Management, Utilization Management and Coding programs.

The main component of the CDI program will be a group of experienced registered nurses, specially trained as clinical documentation specialists.

These individuals will work with providers to offer guidance to convert their clinical documentation into the right (and compliant) words in a concurrent manner while their patient is in the hospital.

The concurrent nature of the work will reduce a great deal of the aggravation surrounding post discharge queries physicians may be experiencing.

All physicians, residents and mid-level providers are encouraged to attend one of the upcoming educational sessions.
