Smithsonian expert to discuss Latino music today

The Smithsonian’s Dr. Daniel Sheehy will discuss the sounds and meanings of grassroots Latino musical traditions today during a presentation on the UNMC campus.












Time Travelers partnership



Dr. Sheehy’s lecture is offered through the Time Travelers partnership, which provides free museum admission for medical center employees, students, and their immediate family with valid identification badges, while also offering lectures, workshops and other events on the medical center campus.




Dr. Sheehy, acting director of the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage and director and curator of Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, will start his presentation at noon in the Sorrell Center, Room 2014.

Dr. Sheehy’s book, “Mariachi Music in America: Experiencing Music, Expressing Culture,” was published by Oxford University Press in 2006. He has also co-edited numerous other publications.

Employees are encouraged to bring lunch to the lecture.
