The Smithsonian’s Dr. Daniel Sheehy will discuss the sounds and meanings of grassroots Latino musical traditions during a Monday presentation on the UNMC campus.

Dr. Sheehy’s book, “Mariachi Music in America: Experiencing Music, Expressing Culture,” was published by Oxford University Press in 2006. He has also co-edited numerous other publications.
A Fulbright-Hays scholar in Veracruz, Mexico, Dr. Sheehy he earned his Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from UCLA. He co-curates the Smithsonian’s eight-year Nuestra Música: Music in Latino Culture initiative of recordings, Smithsonian Folklife Festival programs and the virtual exhibition “Música del Pueblo.”
