Meet new public health dean at Sept. 24 open house

Ayman El-Mohandes, M.B.B.Ch., M.D., M.P.H.

The campus community is invited to meet UNMC’s new College of Public Health Dean, Ayman El-Mohandes, M.B.B.Ch., M.D., M.P.H., during a Sept. 24 open house at the college’s new dean’s office suite in Wittson Hall.

The open house will be held from noon to 5 p.m. in Wittson Hall, Room 5025.

Dr. El-Mohandes starts at UNMC today and comes to the medical center from George Washington University, where he was chairman of the department of prevention and community health.

He also was jointly appointed in the department of pediatrics at GW’s School of Medicine and Health Sciences as an academic practicing pediatrician/neonatologist.

One of Dr. El-Mohandes’ first tasks as public health dean will be to lead the college through accreditation with the Council on Education for Public Health.

Dr. El-Mohandes — who was raised in Egypt and has worked extensively in the international arena — also hopes to advance educational collaborations with other nations.
