UNMC now a tobacco-free campus

Cessation resources

The Caremark Prescription Drug Program includes reimbursement for tobacco cessation drugs such as:

  • Buproprion,
  • Zyban,
  • Chantix,
  • Nictotine Gum,
  • Nicotrol Inhaler, and
  • Nicoderm Patch.

A 30-day supply of the above drugs based on the brand non-formulary co-pay ($47) except for Bupropion, which is a generic drug ($9 co-pay).

These co-pays can be submitted to the Health Care Reimbursement account if you are participating in that benefit.

An annual $50 deductible is also required for brand name drugs for each covered person.

As of today, UNMC is officially a tobacco-free campus.

This means tobacco use of any kind is prohibited on UNMC grounds.

Several resources are available for those who plan to use the campus’ new tobacco-free status as an opportunity to stop their tobacco use.

The Faculty/Employee Assistance Program (559-5175) has a counselor certified as an addiction specialist for individual appointments and provides group sessions on addictions, specifically the addiction of tobacco products.

Also, employees’ Health Care Reimbursement Account funds can be used for tobacco cessation programs, counseling and medications — both over-the-counter and prescription.

The Caremark Prescription Drug Program also provides reduced costs for tobacco cessation medications (see info box).
