Omaha philanthropist Ruth Scott, center, was in attendance Friday for a lecture by visiting professor Lawrence Dorr, M.D., right, at a ceremony for UNMC’s graduating orthopaedic surgery residents. Dr. Dorr — whose lecture was titled “Medicine, My Medicine” — is founder and medical director of The Dorr Arthritis Institute in Los Angeles and a world leader in hip and joint replacement surgery and research. He once helped a good friend of Scott’s get needed treatment by referring her to UNMC’s Kevin Garvin, M.D., left, chairman of the department of orthopaedic surgery. Scott listened to Dr. Dorr’s seminar on Friday and said it left her inspired. The ceremony also featured presentations by UNMC’s outgoing orthopaedic surgery residents:
