In 1969, man first walked on the moon, more than 400,000 people gathered in upstate New York for Woodstock, Richard Nixon was sworn in as president and five current UNMC employees began their employment at the medical center.

Recently,these employees joined more than 300 UNMC workers who were lauded during the Employee Service Awards Dinner — which honored staff members who celebrated tenures of service in five-year increments this year. The dinner was held at the Embassy Suites in La Vista.

Also recognized were 20 UNMC employees who had retired since May 2008 and the five people who had received the Chancellor’s Gold ‘U’ award in the past year.

“I want to thank each and every one of you, not only for your tenure and service, but for all of the wonderful work you do that makes the medical center hum,” said UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D. “You don’t realize how important you are, not only for the benefit of what happens at the medical center, but as ambassadors for the medical center.”

The 40-year employees were:

  • Nancy Abraham, business and finance;
  • Suzanne Eulberg, School of Allied Health Professions;
  • Terrance Vail, business and finance;
  • Rosella Squires, College of Medicine; and
  • Daniel McQuade, Information Technology Services.

This is the third-straight year UNMC has honored five, 40-year employees.
