Foundations for Success is a career development and networking series open to office service staff at UNMC. The annual series aims to strengthen employees’ skill foundations so they experience the highest level of success in their current position and are motivated to advance forward as leaders in current or future UNMC positions.
John Russell, assistant vice chancellor for human resources, encouraged all graduates to take the skills they learned and use them towards their professional growth and leadership opportunities.
Graduate Nicole McCoid said that Foundations for Success was “an amazing program!”
“I am grateful to UNMC and all those involved for creating such an encouraging experience where personal and professional development is supported,” McCoid said.
The program was sponsored by UNMC Human Resources and was directed by Carmen Sirizzotti, employee relations and organizational development director. Continuing Education assisted with the program.
Participants met on four occasions for the 26-hour program and took part in the following sessions:
- Managing relationships with bosses;
- Conflict resolution;
- Communication skills at all levels within the organization;
- Strengths management;
- Diversity;
- Humor in the workplace; and
- Working in Teams.
The program culminated in the graduation ceremony at the W.H. Thompson Alumni Center on the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus.
The ceremony included — for the third time — the presentation of awards for students who were most likely to apply certain principles taught during the class.
Greg Higgins of campus security took home five awards and Eric White, a graphic designer in the printing department received four. Mirna Colon, a regulatory data associate, took home one award, and there was a seven-way tie for the last award: the participant most likely to follow advice when dealing with stress.
