Dr. Smith to discuss H1N1 on weekend KETV segments

Phil Smith, M.D., chief of the section of infectious diseases at UNMC and medical director for the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit, will address the H1N1 virus on several KETV NewsWatch 7 “HealthWatch Asks, UNMC Answers” segments this weekend.

A total of nine segments — which began running last night — will air on the weekend and will feature Dr. Smith addressing topics related to the H1N1 virus.

Here is a schedule of this weekend’s segments, including those that ran Thursday:

• Thursday at 5 p.m. — “Why are cases more severe in Mexico?”
• Thursday at 6 p.m. — “Is there a vaccine?”
  
• Friday at 5 p.m. — “Why is there so much concern about this strain?”
• Friday at 6 p.m. — “What’s the difference between H1N1 and ordinary flu?”
  
• Saturday First News (8 a.m.) — “What are the symptoms?”
  
• Sunday First News (8 a.m.) — “What precautions should be taken if traveling?”
  
• Sunday at 10 p.m. — “Should healthy people get Tamiflu/Relenza?”
  
• Monday First News (6 a.m.) — “Are masks effective?”
  
• Monday at 6 p.m. — “What should you do if a coworker has flu symptoms?”
