The Nebraska Nurses Association (NNA) recently recognized nurse faculty from the UNMC College of Nursing Lincoln and Kearney divisions with two of its awards.

Christie Campbell-Grossman, Ph.D., of the UNMC College of Nursing-Lincoln Division, was presented with the association’s 2008 Outstanding Nurse Educator award.

The award recognizes achievement, innovation and expertise by a nurse whose primary role is as an educator. The nominee must be directly involved in patient education, nursing education, continuing education or staff development.

Nominators cited Dr. Campbell-Grossman’s ability to motivate students and faculty, her willingness to perform duties beyond those required of her and her passionate and unselfish commitment to nursing and to the NNA. Dr. Campbell-Grossman, a nursing educator for more than 20 years, teaches in the bachelor’s and master’s programs.

The association presented its 2008 Distinguished Service Award to District 4 members, which includes faculty from the UNMC College of Nursing Kearney Division.

The award was presented for showing initiative, creativity and a willingness to “think outside the box.” In celebration of Nurses Week, district members collected donations to erect two red billboards — one in Kearney and one in Grand Island, that said, “Thank a Nurse.”
