Lookin’ at U — Elaine Ryan

picture disc.Quick, think of five things others should know about you.

That’s the theme behind a series in UNMC Today called “Lookin’ at U.”

Each Thursday, we will randomly select a medical center employee to feature.

This week, we feature Elaine Ryan, office associate I in the department of internal medicine.

Here, in her own words, are five fun facts about Elaine:

  • I grew up on a farm near Dodge, Neb., and am the oldest of nine children. I have five younger sisters and three younger brothers. I would not have given up this experience for anything.

  • My husband, John, and I have been married for 35 years. We have three sons, — Greg, Ben and Jacob; two daughters-in-law, Samantha and Beverly; and three grandsons, twin boys Dillon and Michael, and Tyler.

  • I love to cook and particularly love to bake. When I can’t sleep at night I look through cookbooks. I also enjoy reading, crocheting, golfing, camping, traveling and am a longtime Nebraska football fan who has attended tailgate parties and games for the past 38 years.

  • I have enjoyed working at the medical center for the past 40 years and have seen and experienced many changes during that time. I worked for Dr. Robert Grissom when he was chairman of internal medicine, Dr. Perry Rigby before he was dean of the College of Medicine and also typed Dr. Jim Armitage’s first published paper on his CV when he was in medical school. It has been extremely rewarding to work for all three of these physicians.

  • I volunteer as an ambassador in the Omaha Performing Arts Program and am a member of the human needs committee at our church.

Read UNMC Today next Thursday to see who is featured in the next Lookin’ at U article. Who knows — it could be U.
