Conrad will focus on chemistry and chemical engineering technologies developed at UNMC.
“We’re pleased to add Sara to our team. She has a terrific mix of skills and experience,” said Michael Dixon, Ph.D., vice president and chief operating officer for UNeMed. “I encourage faculty to get to know her and to contact her with research developments.”
Conrad will work with faculty to receive, evaluate, protect, market and license their new invention notifications (NINs).
Serving as a liaison, Conrad’s focus will be to increase the visibility of UNeMed by providing assistance to retain intellectual property rights for the university and its inventors.
Conrad will be the faculty members’ primary contact for the College of Pharmacy and College of Dentistry, the departments of biochemistry and molecular biology, pediatrics, pharmacology, physiology and biophysics, pulmonary and critical care, and radiation oncology in the College of Medicine.
“Sara will play a key role in our office, liaising with both UNMC faculty and industry to help oversee the translation of research discoveries into commercial products,” Dr. Dixon said. “Our goal is to support and foster the culture of innovation on campus and have all faculty, staff and students participating in our technology transfer activities.”
UNeMed receives 50 to 60 disclosures annually and licenses many of these inventions to companies worldwide for commercial development. In addition to commercializing new technologies, UNeMed offers assistance to entrepreneurial faculty interested in starting new companies locally.
Conrad earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Miami University, a master’s degree in chemistry from State University of New York and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Prior to her chemical engineering study, Conrad worked at Iowa State and Duke universities.
Conrad also has experience at NASA, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Naval Research Laboratory.
Most recently, she had worked at the University of Nebraska Biological Processing and Development Facility.
Originally from Michigan, Conrad has lived throughout the
United States. Currently, she lives in Lincoln with her husband and two sons.
