Durham lecture on the Amazon today at noon

Ryan Valdez from the Smithsonian Associates will discuss the Amazon River region today during lecture today at noon in the College of Nursing, Room 1010.

Join Valdez as he explores why accommodating sustainable development has become one of the greatest conservation challenges in the region.

The lecture is offered through the Time Travelers partnership between UNMC and the Durham Museum. As part of the partnership, medical center employees and their employees get free museum admission with valid identification. The partnership also facilitates lectures, workshops and other events on the medical center campus.

Valdez is a research fellow at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park and has conducted extensive research in the Amazon and Kenya.

Employees are encouraged to bring their lunch.

An evening lecture also is scheduled at the museum at 6:30 p.m. in the Stanley and Dorothy Truhlsen Lecture Hall. Seating for lectures is limited so reservations are required. To reserve seats, please call 402-444-5071. The Durham Museum is at 801 S. 10th St., in Omaha.
