Educational women’s health care series focuses on every stage of life

The Olson Center for Women’s Health at the University of Nebraska Medical Center is offering a four-part educational series that will focus on different age groups and the health issues effecting these groups.

Each session will provide education on current health issues, resources and services on the focused age group as well as a tour of the new Olson Center for Women’s Health, which opened last fall.

The first series begins Thursday, March 27, at the Durham Research Center Auditorium, Durham Research Plaza & Emile Street, with a look at issues affecting women age 60 and older, including gynecologic cancers, breast health and physical therapy. Attendees will learn about gynecologic cancers from Steven Remmenga, M.D., breast health from James Edney, M.D., and physical therapy from Elizabeth Hopkins.

Cost to attend a session is $10 and includes dinner. The registration deadline for this month’s session is March 24. Registration begins at 5 p.m. with the program beginning at 5:30 p.m.

“The Olson Center’s tagline – ‘for every stage of your life’ — emphasizes how we provide comprehensive services and convenient access to top health care professionals for women at any age,” said Lana Molczyk, Olson Center resource specialist. “We wanted to develop an educational series that proved the Olson Center can provide education and services for every stage from early gynecologic care, healthy eating to menopause, and beyond.”

Though dates for the May, July and September sessions have not yet been set, the topics are as follows: May, women 40 to 59 years, sexual health, menopause, anxiety/mental health; July, women 20 to 39 years, health/lifestyle changes and pregnancy/infertility; and September, young girls (tweens) and teens, healthy bodies/healthy lives.

Information on dates will be available by calling 559-6345 or at www.OlsonCenter.com.

Although the series focuses on specific age populations, men and women of all ages are encouraged to attend any session.
