Destination Midtown and Midtown Neighborhood Alliance have joined forces to host a fun July evening for residents and visitors to midtown.
Destination Midtown will host its second annual Summer Block Party on Thursday, July 5 at Field Club School, 3512 Walnut St., from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
“This year’s block party will be bigger and better,” said Pam Goudriaan, who is coordinating the event. “Local vendors will be serving food and drinks. We have added a band to provide live entertainment. Children also will have a great time as there will be games and attractions such as a bouncer.”
The best thing, she said, is admission is free.
Goudriaan hopes people will come for the block party and stay for the Midtown Fireworks Show that will follow at 10 p.m.
This is the second year also for the fireworks show that is being hosted by Midtown Neighborhood Alliance. That show will be held at Field Club of Omaha, 3615 Woolworth Ave. and will be visable throughout the midtown area.
More than 10,000 people enjoyed the show last year and organizers say this year the 20 minute display will be even better.
The theme for the show is “Grab a Blanket; Enjoy the Show!”
Last year, the Midtown Neighborhood Alliance (MNA) had only a handful of sponsors. This year MNA created four levels of sponsorship — “Presenting,” “Blue,” “White” and “Red” — to allow for more participation.
Goudriaan is convinced that everybody will have a great time and will experience midtown’s vibrant urban community.
This year’s sponsors include UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center, the City of Omaha, Security National Bank, Kiewit Construction, Field Club of Omaha, KPTM and the Midtown Business Association.
