A new Multicultural Diversity page is among the recently-added features to the UNMC home page. |
The link for newly established College of Public Health was added Jan. 18, the day the college was declared open for business.
The new Outreach section — in addition to the previously existing Research, Education and Patient Care sections — allows the Web site to reflect UNMC’s four-pronged mission.
The Outreach section has a site map with links to UNMC’s outreach Web sites, as well as a link to a new site for the Multicultural Diversity page — http://www.unmc.edu/diversity/. This page, which was designed by UNMC Web/online Communications Coordinator Theresa Cassiday, contains information about UNMC’s diversity initiatives.
“The new Web page will provide a central spot for information about UNMC’s diversity initiatives and programs,” said Rubens Pamies, M.D., vice chancellor for academic affairs. “We envision it being the first place people go to see what diversity efforts are being made here at UNMC.”
Two new campus maps have also been posted on the Web site at http://www.unmc.edu/5/aboutunmc/maps.htm.
One map is a three-dimensional depiction of the campus that shows all the buildings on campus. This map was created by Med Maps in Knoxville, Tenn., which also created a 3-D map for The Nebraska Medical Center.
The map shows buildings in progress, such as the Michael F. Sorrell Center for Health Science Education and the Research Center of Excellence II. It will be updated periodically to reflect the construction progress of the new buildings.
The second map is an interactive Google map containing building details and contact information. This map was programmed by Judson Skoog-Smith, a former intern in the UNMC Public Affairs office. Mary Cook, another intern, took photos of all campus buildings for the close-up photos featured on the map.
The map shows the UNMC campus in Google map format and the background can be set to show a map drawing, a satellite photo view or a hybrid combination of the two.
By clicking on a red pin or the name of a campus building, a balloon appears to show the building name, a close-up photo, the building’s location and — if applicable — a Web address and phone number for an important office inside.
Driving directions to and from campus buildings can also be found on the Google map.
“These maps will be much more useful than our previous maps for those trying to find specific locations on our campus,” Cassiday said. “They are much clearer and more detailed.
“Many thanks to Judson Skoog-Smith for programming the interactive Google map. This was a very time-consuming task that involved coordinating a lot of detailed information,” Cassiday said. “Thanks also go to Mary Cook, who took photos of every building on campus so they could be used for the map.”
Another new feature on the Web site is the Image Gallery, which includes Cook’s photos of the campus buildings; images of the chancellor, vice chancellors and deans; and links to logos and logo use guidelines for UNMC and the University of Nebraska.
The photos in the gallery come in JPEG format for use on the Web and in presentations. TIFF versions of the photos are available for print projects.
Find the gallery anywhere on UNMC Web site by clicking on the News link in the top navigation bar. The Image Gallery links are on the left side of the page.
