The UNMC Physicians Pediatric Clinic celebrated its new location on the first floor of the Durham Outpatient Center with an open house on Monday.

“The open house went well,” said Danita Cyronek, a pediatric case manager in the department of pediatrics at UNMC, who helped organize the event. “It was fun to show our new space to visitors and everyone was thrilled with the give-a-ways.”

The clinic relocated to the first floor of the Durham Outpatient Center in early December to make room for the Olson Center for Women’s Health on the fourth floor. The clinic includes office and clinic space for UNMC Physicians’ general and specialty pediatrics clinics, including pulmonary, neurology, nephrology, GI and dermatology.

About 200 people visited the clinic during the open house.

A fish tank in the waiting room is one of the features children and parents can enjoy in the UNMC Physicians Pediatric Clinic’s new location on the first floor of the Durham Outpatient Center.

John Walburn, M.D., professor of pediatrics general, said patients have found the earth-toned color scheme calming. Bright, primary colors — although often associated with pediatric offices — tend to increase anxiety levels in children, Dr. Walburn said.

“This is much more peaceful and serene,” he said.

“The move brought many opportunities for improving our space,” said Mary Wettengel, pediatric clinic manager. “We now have better patient flow due to more rooms and better organization. The hands-on boards and fish tank in the waiting room have also been well-received by our little patients and our patient families love the convenience of being on the first floor.”
