At a pinning ceremony held in the Storz Pavilion of Clarkson Tower in September, the 45 students took an oath of professionalism in front of more than 200 family members and friends.
Kyle Myer, associate dean of the School of Allied Health Professions, and Kassia Ulffers, a graduate of Radiation Science and Technology Education spoke to the students about professionalism, commitment and future success.
“This ceremony has been well received by the students,” said James B. Temme, associate director of UNMC’s Radiation Science Technology Division.
“Students are given their RSTE pin and recite an oath to emphasize the high standards which will be expected of them as they care for patients. The pin symbolizes that the wearer is dedicated to the highest principles of respect, competency, service and integrity.
“During the reception afterwards, the family members had a chance to meet other students in the Radiation Science program and tour the campus.”
One of the new RSTE students is Tracy Kuszak from Ashton, Neb. Kuszak is the daughter of Daryl and Mitzi Kuszak of Ashton. She graduated from Loup City High School, Loup City, Neb., in 1999. She received her bachelor’s of science degree in biology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2003.
“I wanted something interesting and challenging in the medical field that I could apply to my undergraduate degree,” said Kuszak, a student in the nuclear medicine program.
“The pinning ceremony was a chance to be formally accepted into the professional field of health care and an opportunity for our family and friends to understand more about UNMC and what we do in our individual departments.”
