Lucia Cadetti, a post-doctoral fellow at UNMC, is one of 10 Fight for Sight 2005-06 Postdoctoral Fellowships recipients. Outstanding independent researchers were selected nationally. Fellows receive a $20,000 grant each year.
Cadetti works with Wallace Thoreson, Ph.D., UNMC Department of Ophthalmology.
“Lucia is an exceptionally talented young scientist who developed an exciting and creative proposal,” Dr. Thoreson said. “I’m proud of her success in obtaining such a competitive award.
“Her experiments involve technically challenging optical and electrical measurements from individual retinal nerve cells. Lucia’s research accomplishments are being recognized nationally and internationally as shown by her recent invitation to speak at a national conference to be held next summer,” he said.
Last year, Fight for Sight awarded $650,000 to vision scientists working in 40 institutions in the U.S. and Canada. Fight for Sight, established in 1946, promotes vision research by encouraging and supporting pilot projects and young investigators. More than $17 million in grants has been awarded to more than 3,000 physicians and scientists.
