The University Medical Associates, UNMC’s physician group practice, invites the public to its free “Winter Health Tune Up,” event Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9 to 11 a.m., at its location in the Clarkson West Medical Center building at 144th and Center streets near Oak View Mall.
The open house will feature a variety of free and low-cost screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, thyroid, prostate cancer, diabetes, vision, glaucoma, bone density, dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan, skin cancer screening, and checking dentures and implants.
The YMCA will do body fat percentages, grip strength testing and balance testing. The American Lung Association will provide free lung function tests, which screens for asthma and other lung diseases.
Though flu shots have been available in past events, they will not be offered this year.
Children’s activities will include a juggler, face-painting, proper hand washing demonstrations and coloring activities. Children can bring their teddy bears or dolls for free check-ups.
Nutrition information will be available, including visual demonstrations of fat content of certain foods. The Cosmopolitan-UNMC College of Nursing Mobile Nursing Center will provide screening in its mobile unit.
Door prizes will be given.
The event is sponsored by UMA, the physician group practice of 450 UNMC physicians.
