A Web site dedicated to UNMC’s re-accreditation efforts has been posted.
The Web site, www.unmc.edu/nca, is intended to provide information broadly about the re-accreditation process. The site contains a message from Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., the criteria for accreditation, members of accreditation committees and task forces, a project time line, frequently asked questions (FAQs) and other information.
“One of the things that the accrediting commission will look for is how open our process is to the campus and to the community in general,” said Mary Helms, associate professor/associate director of the McGoogan Library of Medicine and a member of the re-accreditation executive committee. “This Web site is one way in which we can explain the re-accreditation process and make information available to the public.”
Helms explained that some of the information would be updated as the self-study of the re-accreditation process continues. Theresa Cassiday, UNMC Web/online communications coordinator and a member of the re-accreditation communications team, organized the site.
The re-accreditation process will take place over the next 1 1/2 years, culminating with a site visit by a team from the accrediting body, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Links to the HLC and the NCA Web sites are available at the UNMC re-accreditation page.
UNMC is seeking a full, 10-year re-accreditation. The accreditation is necessary for UNMC to maintain its eligibility for federal student aid programs, among other things.
