UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center and UMA employees are invited to visit Joslyn Art Museum next month and see the exquisite exhibition, Mir Iskusstva: Russia’s Age of Elegance, which opens June 4. Employees also may attend Art Express, a monthly lunch series that begins June 3 in The Lied Transplant Center.

Through a partnership with Joslyn, all UNMC, The Nebraska Medical Center and UMA employees, students and their families will be admitted free to the museum and ticketed exhibitions in 2005 by showing their employee ID badge at Joslyn’s entrance desk. A free admission includes two adults and accompanying children during general admission hours, which are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. Note: During the run of Russia’s Age of Elegance, June 4 through Sept. 14, the museum will extend its hours on Thursdays until 8 p.m. On these evenings the Scott Pavilion will be open (special exhibition galleries and the museum’s contemporary collection galleries) and visitors may participate in guided tours, enjoy a cash bar and shop.

More on Mir Iskusstva: Russia’s Age of Elegance (June 4 – Sept. 14)
During the reign of the last tsar, Nicholas II, many of Russia’s leading artists turned their focus to celebrating their shared interests in ballet, music, literature, theatre, art and design. This great flowering of artistic creativity, the so-called Silver Age, is generally unknown in the West due to the revolution, which ended artistic freedom and cut off contact with the rest of the World. But now, following political changes in Russia, these works – portraits, landscapes, stylized genre scenes, theatrical set and costume designs – are being rediscovered. This rare exhibition from the collection of the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg features 90 of these works. Joslyn is the opening venue and one of only three museums receiving this show, the first of its kind in the U.S. For more information visit www.joslyn.org.
