UNMC students celebrate National Pharmacy Week

Pharmacy students at UNMC are celebrating National Pharmacy Week Oct. 24-30, with several on-campus activities and off-campus service projects.

Today, Lt. Gov. Dave Heineman will be at the College of Pharmacy Building to read a proclamation, regarding National Pharmacy Week.

Other activities planned for the week include:

On Tuesday, Kappa Epsilon, the professional fraternity for students in pharmacy, will hand out pink ribbons and educational information on breast cancer to students in the college. Kappa Epsilon’s national philanthropic project is breast cancer awareness.

On Wednesday, Kappa Psi, the professional pharmaceutical fraternity, is having a glove and mitten drive, with donations going toward children and adults in need.

On Thursday, the Rural Pharmacy Student Association (RPSA) is giving treats in the College of Pharmacy. Over the noon hour, students will hand out candy to children in a “Reverse Trick or Treat” at The Nebraska Medical Center, UNMC’s hospital partner.

On Friday, Oct. 29, College of Pharmacy students will perform diabetes, blood-pressure and cholesterol screenings at Baker’s Supermarket, 888 S. Saddle Creek Road, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 4 p.m. The screening is organized by the American Pharmacy Association-Academy of Students of Pharmacy chapter at UNMC.
