Television reporter joins UNMC public affairs

picture disc.Veteran Omaha television reporter, Margaret Bumann, has joined the UNMC Public Affairs Department as special projects coordinator.

A native of Ida Grove, Iowa, Bumann has spent the past 16 years covering the medical beat for KETV, Channel 7, Omaha’s ABC affiliate.

During her tenure at KETV, Bumann was promoted to anchor of the midday show in 1992, and four years later, to co-anchor of the five p.m. newscast. She has won numerous awards for her medical reporting.

“We’re excited to have Margaret join the UNMC team,” said Sandy Goetzinger-Comer, director of public affairs. “Over the years, she has done hundreds of stories at the Medical Center, so she has an exceptionally strong knowledge of the many exciting things we have taking place on our campus. She will be a great addition to our staff.”

Bumann’s responsibilities at UNMC will include assisting with national media relations efforts, doing media training for UNMC faculty, providing video production and consultation, writing for UNMC publications and completing a variety of special projects.

“Coming to the Medical Center presents an exciting challenge for me,” Bumann said. “I’m looking forward to transferring many of the skills I learned in broadcast news to my new job at UNMC.”

A graduate of the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, Bumann and her husband, Jim Callaghan, have two children — a son, Reilly, 9, and a daughter, Katie, 4.
