Twenty four students have begun a masters degree in physician assistant
at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Students are enrolled in
the physician assistant program in Omaha for 28 months.
To be admitted into the program, students must have a bachelor’s degree
and complete courses in biology, chemistry, psychology, English and math.
Physician Assistants (PA) are authorized by the state or credentialed by
the federal government to practice medicine as delegated by and with the
supervision of a physician.
A physician assistant performs physical examinations, order and interpret
diagnostic tests, prescribe medications and provide patient education and
preventative health care counseling. They practice in all subspecialties
of medicine and are employed in all types of health care settings including
private practice, government services and in the armed forces.
