Adm. Ellis was interviewed by the Chancellor’s Council and had a private interview with Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D. He also heard presentations during a tour of the state-of-the art research and education facilities at the Durham Research Center.
Ellis, 56, has been commander of the U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base since 2001. He received his bachelor’s degree at the Naval Academy, a master’s degree in aeronautical systems at the University of West Florida and a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Adm. Ellis is one of four finalists vying to become the next president of the University of Nebraska. The others are Peter Sloat Hoff, Ph.D., president of the University of Maine’s flagship campus; James “J.B.” Milliken, J.D., senior vice president for university affairs of the University of North Carolina system; and Kim Robak, vice president for external affairs and corporate secretary for the University of Nebraska.
Dr. Hoff and Milliken visited the UNMC campus earlier this week, while Robak will come to campus today.
