On Monday, Peter Sloat Hoff, Ph.D., became the first finalist for the University of Nebraska president position to make a formal visit to UNMC.

Dr. Hoff was interviewed by the Chancellor’s Council and select campus leaders during his 1 1/2 hours on campus. He also heard presentations during a tour of the state-of-the art research and education facilities at the Durham Research Center.

Dr. Hoff, 59, has served as president of the University of Maine’s flagship campus since 1997. Hoff received his bachelor’s degree at the University of Wisconsin and his master’s degree and doctorate at Stanford University. He studied English literature and has written about British satirical fiction.

Dr. Hoff is one of four finalists vying to become the next president of the University of Nebraska. The others are Adm. James Ellis, commander of the U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base; James “J.B.” Milliken, J.D., senior vice president for university affairs of the University of North Carolina system; and Kim Robak, vice president for external affairs and corporate secretary for the University of Nebraska.

The final three finalists will visit UNMC later this week.
