Nebraska academy honors UNMC physician’s support of nurse practitioners

The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners presented its annual Nebraska Nurse Practitioner Advocate Award recently to Anthony Floreani, M.D., pulmonologist at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

The award recognizes an advocate for contributions in support of the role of the nurse practitioner, said Polly A. Hulme, Ph.D., assistant professor, family nurse practitioner program, UNMC College of Nursing, and Nebraska representative for the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Dr. Floreani, whose nominators wrote is a highly respected pulmonologist at UNMC, said he is a great supporter of nurse practitioners. Dr. Hulme said he hired the first nurse practitioner in the pulmonary section of UNMC, and has advocated the hiring of additional nurse practitioners.

In addition, Dr. Floreani was cited as the most frequently requested guest speaker at Nebraska Nurse Practitioner conferences, during which he was spoken on numerous occasions.

He is also praised for his collegial relationships with nurse practitioners. He is always willing to consult on patient matters no matter how busy he is, Dr. Hulme said.
