Laurie M. Schaefer, a student in the Nuclear Medicine Program at UNMC, died Saturday, Jan. 3, in a one-vehicle accident in Lincoln. Schaefer had completed one semester in the Nuclear Medicine Program, which is part of the School of Allied Health Professions’ Radiation Science Technology Division.
“Laurie was an outstanding student and individual,” said James Temme, associate director of the Radiation Science Technology Division. “She always had a smile and was loved by patients and staff. She will be missed.”
A rosary will take place at 7 p.m. this evening (Tuesday) at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lincoln. A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the church, 7900 Trendwood Drive. Memorials are planned for a scholarship fund that will benefit a Lincoln Pius X graduate pursuing a degree at UNMC.
Schaefer, a 2000 graduate of Lincoln Pius X High School, is the second of three daughters of Steven and Rose Schaefer of Lincoln. Survivors include her parents; sisters, Kellie Schaefer of Omaha and Nicole Schaefer of Lincoln; grandmother Donna Schaefer of Beatrice; and aunts and uncles.
