The University Medical Associates, the physician group practice of the
University of Nebraska Medical Center, invites the public to its free Winter
Health Tune Up, event Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9 to 11 a.m., at its location
in the Clarkson West Medical Center building at 144th and Center streets
near the Oak View Mall.
The open house will feature a variety of screenings, including blood
pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, vision, glaucoma, prostate cancer and
hearing screenings. Most of the screenings are free, but there is a minimal
charge for some.
Free flu shots will be available while supplies last for those at high
risk of developing complications from the flu (including those over 65
and those who are immunosuppressed, have lung disease and asthma, diabetes,
and heart disease). Physical therapists will do grip strength testing and
balance testing. Nutrition information will be available, including visual
demonstrations of fat content of certain foods. The Cosmopolitan-UNMC College
of Nursing Mobile Nursing Center will provide screenings in its mobile
unit.
Childrens activities will include a juggler, face-painting, proper
hand washing demonstrations and coloring activities. Children can bring
their teddy bears or dolls for free check-ups. Door prizes will be given.
The event is sponsored by UMA, the physician group practice of 350 UNMC
physicians.
