The 11th annual “Night of a Thousand Stars” will shine in Omaha on Saturday, Dec. 6, and the UNMC HIV Team and Stars Committee hope that a record number of people will illuminate the Omaha Woman’s Club to begin their evening of celebration.
The pre-party reception and cocktail supper at the Omaha Woman’s Club, 518 S. 38th St., will begin at 7 p.m. Those attending the UNMC-sponsored event will be admitted to the main event, which will begin at 9 p.m. at the new Qwest Center Omaha. The featured entertainer at the Qwest Center event is pop star Lionel Richie, former lead singer of the Commadores and current singles artist. The requested donation to attend the UNMC event is $30 per person ($15 for UNMC students), which will benefit the Nebraska AIDS Project. For tickets, contact Deanna Hansen at 559-5392 or dmhansen@unmc.edu, or Jayme Nekuda at 559-8448 or jnekuda@unmc.edu.
“This should be a wonderful celebration, with the proceeds benefiting a very worthy cause,” said Susan Swindells, M.D., medical director of the UNMC HIV Clinic and the Terry K. Watanabe Chair of HIV Research. “This reception has been a lot of fun in the past, and this one promises to be the best one ever.”
Keith Swarts, Mike and Carol McGlade, and Nekuda, along with Dr. Swindells, are the primary organizers of the UNMC event. The reception at the Woman’s Club will feature valet parking, a piano player, plenty of beverages and hors d’oeuvres, as well as a party favor for each participant.
“This promises to be a wonderful, elegant evening for those attending our party,” said Swarts, director of Business Services at UNMC. “I guarantee you will not be disappointed.”
The Nebraska AIDS Project, the only community-based AIDS service organization in Nebraska, was organized in 1984. Its mission is to work to eliminate the spread of HIV through education and prevention programs targeted to those at risk, and to provide professional services and compassionate support to people living with HIV and AIDS, their families and loved ones.
