The University of Nebraska Medical Center hosted 234 high school students from 49 high schools across Nebraska during its seventh Rural Health Professions Career Day. The event, sponsored by UNMC and the Rural Health Education Network, introduced students to the health professions.
Students learned about opportunities in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, physician assistant, physical therapy, medical technology and other fields.
Dan Chambers, coordinator of the program, said students learned about the different schools at UNMC, and what classes they should be taking now, and in college, to pursue a health care education. The Rural Health Professions Career Day is one of many UNMC efforts to assist in Growing Our Own future health professionals for Nebraska.
