‘Community Health Line’ radio program now available online

Archived editions of “Community Health Line,” a UNMC radio program which airs each Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to noon on KIOS-FM (91.5), can now be heard via the Internet on UNMC’s News and Information site: http://www.unmc.edu/2/newsarchive/chl/index.htm.
The idea for making the radio program available via the Internet was prompted by the UNMC Center for Continuing Education, which worked with the department of public affairs to make it happen.

Co-hosted by William Gust, M.D., assistant professor of internal medicine, and Tom O’Connor, senior associate director of public affairs, Community Health Line explores a wide variety of medical topics utilizing a call-in format. Each week, the program features guest experts, usually from UNMC or Nebraska Health System.

Tom O’Connor, left, and Bill Gust, M.D., have co-hosted Community Health Line for more than 15 years.

“The program is a great way for people to keep up-to-date with what’s happening on the UNMC campus,” said O’Connor, who has co-hosted the show since 1987. “It’s also a good opportunity for people who aren’t able to listen on the radio to be able to hear the shows at their convenience.”

“Having a weekly program on a National Public Radio affiliate is an ideal tool to communicate the newest activities in medicine,” said Dr. Gust, who began doing the show in 1985. “Public radio reaches a very educated audience which is interested in the cutting edge of medical care. It’s a perfect fit with UNMC.”
