E-OnCall, the campus’ new online OnCall system, is now available for employees to view on NHS WebSource, the hospital Intranet. E-OnCall is a one-stop, Web-based application that contains all on-call schedules for hospital-based departments, academic departments and private practice physicians.
“This easy-to-use program will allow those on campus who generate on-call schedules to publish online in real time, thus eliminating the cumbersome distribution of the current out-of-date three-ring binder system,” says Don Pecha, web master, marketing. “E-OnCall will also be more current than the paper schedules and will provide desktop access to 169 on-call schedules.”
How does E-OnCall work?
Schedulers populate their department’s schedule at any time interval they choose. Accountability for keeping their respective schedule current remains with each department. An “administrator” function, available to the scheduler, will allow for quick schedule changes, adding or deleting of names, changing status, phone numbers, contact preferences, etc. Users can contact the on-call personnel by populating the search field by department or name.
The advantages of the new E-OnCall program are numerous. It will enhance access to on-call schedules by:
- Allowing anyone with access to NHS Websource, UNMC Intranet and/or Synapse and other off-campus users to view the schedules;
- Reducing the current volume of calls to the hospital operator for paging requests;
- Decreasing call-back time to the page requestor, by eliminating the hospital operator.
Marketing encourages all departments who have not been trained on the new system to become familiar with it via one of the following training methods. To date, 36 of 169 schedulers have participated in training and have posted their schedules. The expectation is to have 100 percent online OnCall schedule participation by May 19.
Two training methods are available
1) Employees may train themselves with a PowerPoint-based offering.
2) Classroom training that follows the PowerPoint training (will be available as enough people sign up to fill a session.)
