The UNMC Human Resources office will be sharing a series of articles designed to help employees better understand their benefits. This week’s UNMC Benefits Corner explains when employees can change their benefits choices.
When can I change my benefits choices? We have re-enrollment every year. This year, 2003 NU Flex information will be mailed from Lincoln on Nov. 15 to the employee’s department. Changes made during this NU Flex enrollment period are effective Jan. 1, 2003. The re-enrollment period will begin on Nov. 18, with a deadline of Dec. 6 to turn in your NU Flex 2003 Change Form to make adjustments to your benefit choices.
Changes at any other time during the year can be made only if a change in status occurs. This would include marriage, divorce, death, birth or adoption of a child, or a change in employment (your spouse may change jobs, or you or your spouse may go from full-time to part-time or vice versa).
To change your benefits due to a change in status, the benefits office must be notified and the appropriate paperwork completed within 31 days of that change in status. If you have any questions regarding what changes are allowed, contact your Benefits Office at Benefits@unmc.edu.
