UNMC faculty member Dr. Al-Omaishi dies

picture disc. Jinan Al-Omaishi, M.D., assistant professor in UNMC’s department of neurological sciences, died Sunday, Nov. 3, after battling cancer. She was 41.

A native of Baghdad, Iraq, she joined the UNMC faculty in 1999. Dr. Al-Omaishi earned her medical degree from the University of Baghdad in 1984 and did her internal medicine and neurology residencies at UNMC. A full-time faculty member in UNMC’s department of neurological sciences, her primary focus was multiple sclerosis.

She was a member of the American Medical Association and The American Academy of Neurology.

She is survived by her husband, Nabil Al-Omaishi; son, Salam; daughter, Larsa; sister, Salwa Ali; and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be today (Nov. 5) at 11 a.m. at Heafey-Heafey-Hoffman Dworak-Cutler West Center Chapel, 78th and West Center, followed by a graveside service at noon at the Evergreen Cemetery, Islamic Section.
