UNMC Chancellor Harold M. Maurer, M.D., said today that UNMC plans to implement the scheduled salary increases to employees beginning July 1.
“We recognize that the state is facing a difficult fiscal situation, and we are prepared to confront that fiscal reality by making tough decisions,” Dr. Maurer said. “However, it is not in the best interests of Nebraska to deny the proposed salary increases.
“Many valuable UNMC employees are being sought after locally and nationally for their expertise and talents. We intend to go forward with the salary increases at the beginning of the fiscal year.”
Earlier today, the Lincoln Journal Star reported that the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus suspended official notice of salary increases for faculty and staff, meaning that the July paychecks for UNL faculty, staff and employees would not contain the scheduled increases.
At UNMC, pay raises for faculty and staff will average 4 percent. Each unit or department is given a 4 percent increase for raises; deans and department chairs then assign raises to individual employees based on merit.
