Larry F. Willis, Ed.D., director for the Center for Continuing Education, has been appointed the associate dean for Continuing Medical Education.
Prior to his appointment, Dr. Willis served as interim assistant dean for Continuing Medical Education. He came to UNMC in 1999 to serve as programming director for the Center for Continuing Education.
“Under the direction of Dr. Willis, the Center for Continuing Education has produced programs that have been useful for the ongoing education of physicians. The center also has been successful at running its office with great efficiency,” said James Armitage, M.D., dean of the College of Medicine. “I am confident that Dr. Willis will continue this approach as associate dean for Continuing Medical Education.”
Chairs of each department approved Willis’ appointment.
As associate dean for Continuing Medical Education, Dr. Willis will work with departments to design educational programs for physicians and outside health-care providers.
“I appreciate the continued support from Dr. Armitage for his willingness to support my nomination,” Dr. Willis said. “I look forward to having the opportunity to work directly with the College of Medicine departments.”
During the past 14 years, Dr. Willis has served in executive positions at three Midwest community colleges. Most recently, he served as vice president of educational affairs at Omaha’s Metropolitan Community College.
Previously, he served as dean of instruction at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kan., and as director of career programs at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
A native of Grand Island, Dr. Willis received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
