Thirty-eight students have been accepted into the physician assistant
program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center for fall 2001.
These 38 were selected out of 180 prospective candidates. Physician assistant
students spend 28 months of intensive training in all areas of the medical
field.
Applicants must possess a bachelors degree or have completed necessary
course work in biological sciences, chemistry, psychology, mathematics
and English.
A physician assistant provides many health services including: physical
exams, diagnosing illness, developing and carrying out treatment plans,
and interpreting lab tests. A physician assistant can provide about 80
percent of the services required in a primary care practice.
