Volunteers will be let their fingers do the walking and their voices
do the talking on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m., during the American
Heart Association TeleParty Campaign. More than 80 volunteers will gather
in the University of Nebraska Medical Center Eppley Cancer Center Amphitheater
to call neighbors, co-workers and friends asking for a pledge or donation
for the AHA.
Funds raised will support lifesaving research in detection, prevention
and treatment of cardiovascular disease and stroke. In addition, it will
pay for educational and community programs both locally and across the
nation. The AHA has funded more than $1.6 million in research since 1949.
UNMC is the only public academic health science center in the state.
Through its commitment to research, education and patient care, UNMC has
established itself as one of the country’s leading centers for cancer research
and treatment and solid organ transplantation. More than $34 million in
research grants and contracts are awarded to UNMC scientists annually.
In addition, UNMC’s educational programs are responsible for training more
health professionals practicing in Nebraska than any other institution.
