Uday B. Kompella, Ph.D., assistant professor in the University
of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy, has been elected to a three-year
term as secretary/treasurer, regulatory affairs on the executive council
for the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS).
Dr. Kompella received his bachelors degree in 1987 from Birla Institute
of Technology and Science in Pilani, India, his masters degree in pharmaceutical
engineering in 1989 from Jadavpur University in Calcutta, and his Ph.D.
in pharmaceutical sciences in 1994 from the University of Southern California.
He joined UNMC in July 1998 as an assistant professor in the department
of pharmaceutical sciences.
The AAPS is a professional, scientific society of more than 9,000
members employed in academia, industry, government and other research institutes
worldwide. Founded in 1986, the goal of AAPS is to improve human health
through the development of better pharmaceuticals.
UNMC is the only public academic health science center in the state.
Through its commitment to research, education and patient care, UNMC has
established itself as one of the country’s leading centers for cancer research
and treatment and solid organ transplantation. More than $34 million in
research grants and contracts are awarded to UNMC scientists annually.
In addition, UNMC’s educational programs are responsible for training more
health professionals practicing in Nebraska than any other institution.
