"A Healthier Future Starts Here" is the theme for the Cancer
Awareness Expo to be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 20, at the
University of Nebraska Medical Center. This free event is open to the public
and will be held in the UNMC Outpatient Care Center West Atrium, 44th and
Emile streets.
The event is being hosted by the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center in recognition
of National Cancer Awareness Month and the 25th anniversary of the National
Cancer Act. Attendees will have an opportunity to:
Talk with health-care professionals about healthy lifestyles that
can lower their risk of cancer.
Tour state-of-the-art patient care and research facilities.
Learn about cutting-edge research from scientists who are making cancer
breakthroughs right here in Nebraska.
Receive educational materials on cancer at various booths.
Register to win prizes.
The UNMC Eppley Cancer Center is one of only 10 basic science cancer
centers funded by the National Cancer Institute and is headed by Raymond
Ruddon, M.D., Ph.D. UNMC Eppley Cancer Center researchers brought in over
$15 million in cancer research grants from federal, state and private cancer-focused
agencies between 1994 and 1996.
