Neurovascular Neurosurgery
Our Neurovascular Surgery Division of the UNMC Department of Neurosurgery is one of the busiest programs in the country. Our neurovascular team is comprised of four dually fellowship-trained neurosurgeons who cover the entire spectrum of endovascular and cerebrovascular diagnosis, management, and treatment.
In partnership with Nebraska Medicine , our program was the first to achieve Certification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center in Nebraska, with an extensive teleneurology footprint across the region. Our Division is integrated seamlessly with our stellar stroke neurology expertise, sophisticated neuro-ICU care, therapy services and rehabilitation.
Our trainees gain experience in all aspects of endovascular and cerebrovascular neurosurgery including but not limited to:
- Treatment of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH or pseudotumor cerebri) with venous stenting
- Brain aneurysms
- Arteriovenous malformations (AVM)
- Dural fistula
- Carotid stenosis
- Venous disorders
With the endovascular platform, we are at the cutting edge of device validation for the latest aspiration catheters and stent retrievers and have adopted the most comprehensive strategies including the latest and best coated and bare platinum coils, WEB device, flow-diverting stents and open and closed cell stents. We are one of the few national registry sites for novel liquid embolic agents for embolization of AVM and dural fistula.
The educational mission of the UNMC Neurovascular Surgery Division is robust. We are the only tertiary care academic medical center in Nebraska with the state's only Neurosurgery Training Program and CAST-accredited endovascular neurosurgery fellowship. Our faculty are active in their academic pursuits through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national and international meetings.
Friday mornings we have a dedicated Cerebrovascular Conference for our residents led by our esteemed neurovascular faculty. Our faculty are dedicated to preparing our trainees to become experts in performing neurovascular procedures and learning about the latest advancements in our field.
